Our Roots
We were founded by one of the most celebrated book editors working in publishing today, whose experience with and passion for helping writers--as a senior acquisitions editor for several major houses and as an independent editor--has helped TED become a unique resource for writers looking to improve their writing craft and hoping to publish their work. Check out our Founder's Welcome to learn more about Renni Browne and the principles her committed staff of veteran book editors have stayed true to for nearly 30 years now. Our Staff We are writers and editors; people who understand the value of writing and how much of yourself you put into it. With this understanding, we support your endeavor through our experience, education, and passion for writing. You can check out our Editor Bios page to learn more about the talented editors and manuscript consultants available to you if you decide to work with us, including a rundown of each editor's specialties and tastes in fiction and nonfiction. Our Proven Track Record of Results We have edited hundreds of manuscripts, many of which have gone on to be traditionally published, win awards, become national bestsellers, even been adapted into award-winning movies, and that number is growing all the time. Visit our Meet Our Authors page to read more about some of the books we've helped become successful. Our Commitment to Candor We'll tell you the truth about your manuscript's salability in its current form, even if that means telling you it's not ready for editing. We would rather have you learn and develop your craft on your own than spend the money to have us work with you on a manuscript that won't be ready for publication even with the editing. You only get one chance to make that all-important first impression, and there's nowhere that's more true than in publishing. We will never lead you to believe you're ready to put yourself at the mercy of agents and publishers if we don't think your work is as strong as it needs to be to earn their discriminating attention. Our Focus Books and stories! Period. That's what we're all about. Specifically the conceptual and stylistic development of fiction, non-fiction, and screenplays with an emphasis on bringing out their strengths and intensifying their appeal to as broad an audience as possible. The Scope of Our Services Working with TED means access to a truly comprehensive array of services and approaches to manuscript development that holds something for just about any writer, no matter what your experience or which stage you're at in the writing process. Flexibility Because we're a small company offering a highly personalized level of service, we can work with you to develop whatever combination of services, staff, and scheduling best fits your specific needs. Accessibility We're here, easy to reach, and happy to talk you through any questions you may have. You won't find any voice prompt menus or vague, misleading descriptions in our arsenal. Call us anytime at (520) 546-9992 if you have questions, and Ross or Jesse will be happy to walk you through any of our services, help you figure out what we can offer that suits what you need, or explain our pricing, assignment, or scheduling policies. Our Consideration of Market We study the market by analyzing trends in publishing and book sales, then share these insights with our editorial staff and our writers so we're all aware of current market trends. It's useful to know which books have the best chance of landing a contract in the current market. Our Agent Matchmaking Program If we feel your manuscript is exceptionally good or publication-friendly, you may be eligible for our Agent Matchmaking Program. Our AMP can help you prepare and send submissions to agents who may be interested in representing your book. We know how intimidating and complex submissions can be, and we have great resources to help you with the process. We can help you with pitch materials, finding friendly agents, understanding the unwritten rules of the process, and keeping your courage up when the process seems overwhelming. We sometimes make direct matches for our clients. These are just a few of the reasons we hope you'll consider giving us the opportunity to earn your business and your trust. If you have questions, we invite you to contact TED's President and Managing Editor, Ross Browne at the Tucson office. |
Author Testimonials
You're providing a very useful service to writers in search of that increasingly elusive commodity: a detailed and knowledgeable critique of a book's strengths and weaknesses. I was very pleased with my manuscript evaluation and will engage Penny Stokes again to read my revision. I found your prices to be fair in terms of the services delivered and the professionals providing them. Mimi Jones Hedwig New York, NY |
